About
Hi there! I’m Stephanie McLarty and welcome to Wealth of Family. Most people know me as the Founder and CEO behind REfficient (which was acquired by Quantum Lifecycle Partners), Clara’s Mom, wife to Ty, a passionate reuse/recycler, and many other hats. I love learning, creating, and experiencing new things and places.
So it’s to my own surprise (or not, really) that I’ve launched this site, Wealth of Family. It touches subjects that I have become quite passionate about – family, entrepreneurship, personal finance, and creating a life you love.
To create that life, I had to get out of my way. Along the way, I discovered my money block, faced going bankrupt and realized how very fortunate I was for the entrepreneurial life I had built.
My Entrepreneurial Journey
After completing my undergraduate degree, I wanted to see the world. I went to Thailand for 6 months with an international organization and taught English in India for a year. I then started my Master’s in Austria.
Because I was essentially broke, I took a job in between semesters of my Master’s at a major telecommunications company. I was hired onto an asset recovery project (something I knew nothing about), wore steel-toed boots and drove a red company van to old network sites. I physically pulled out old network equipment and figured out what to do with it.
Once I returned to school, I started consulting with a friend and offering the niche knowledge we had gained back to telecom companies. A few years later, seeing that a technology-based solution was needed, I launched REfficient. And yes, I did finish school.
REfficient grew quickly in the early days, reaching $1 million in sales by year 3. But it wasn’t without challenges, and I almost lost control at one point.
Life changed when I had my daughter in late 2017. I didn’t have a formal maternity leave, given I was self-employed, but entrepreneurship allowed me to call my own shots and even stay on my existing income. I was grateful for the life I had created.
I saw many, many friends dread going back to their old jobs once having a family. They regularly asked me for advice on starting a business. Over time I saw just how many women have this struggle, so I decided to do something about it. I created Wealth of Family and then the Mom Entrepreneurs Supporting Moms: Network, Learn, IMPACT! Facebook group in November 2020.
In January 2022, my company REfficient was acquired by Quantum Lifecycle Partners. I’m now their Head of Sustainability and run Wealth of Family on the side.
What Wealth of Family is About
Wealth of Family is about tips, resources and success stories of how families can realize wealth, both financially and in time, through entrepreneurship.
Most of the conversation happens in the Mom Entrepreneurs Supporting Moms: Network, Learn, IMPACT! Facebook Group, which is 6000 members and growing.
We’ll talk about tips and tricks for:
Moms who are dreading going back to their old job, wanting more time with their children and themselves
Moms with an existing business or side hustle, who are struggling to have their business thrive and/or balance in their life
Business owners who are expecting their first or subsequent child, and wondering how to juggle both
Creating a business that makes a positive impact in the world
Marketing, building confidence, networking and so much more
We’ll talk about ways to make money, like using your skills in new ways to start a side hustle or business. We’ll talk about aligning what’s important and focusing on what will make a difference to your life, your business and the world. We’ll also talk about ways to spend and save money.
